Finals Set

The stage is set for championship Sunday at the 58th Annual Easter Bowl USTA Junior Spring Nationals, presented by adidas, with standout performances across all divisions leading into finals at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Three unseeded Southern California players will compete for Boys’ and Girls’ 18s titles.

Boys’ 18s Final
Arcadia’s Peter Jorniak faces Irvine’s Rishvanth Krishna.

Jorniak continued his breakout week with a 6-2, 6-3 upset over top seed Alexander Suhanitski. The 17-year-old relied on a clear game plan after scouting his opponent.

“I noticed his forehand was a little slower than his backhand, so I targeted that,” Jorniak said.

Jorniak, a junior at Arcadia High School, is riding a 10-match winning streak after competing in a USTA Level 3 event in Camarillo last week. Playing with growing confidence, he joked that a win Sunday might mean he can finally stop paying coach Gage Brymer for hitting sessions.

Krishna advanced with a 7-6(5), 6-1 win over No. 9 seed David Wu, avenging a loss from last year’s tournament.

“I’m not really surprised. I’m just happy to be here,” Krishna said.

Girls’ 18s Final
Top seed Ellery Mendell will take on unseeded Yilin Chen.

Mendell, an Ohio State commit, advanced with a 7-6(4), 6-2 semifinal win.

Chen has been one of the tournament’s biggest surprises, defeating multiple top seeds—including No. 3 Alyson Shannon, 6-1, 6-1—to reach the final.

Boys’ 16s Final
No. 3 Piotr Gradzki (New York) vs. Anay Kulkarni (wild card, Arizona)

Gradzki rallied past top seed Eli Kaminski and is looking to complete a turnaround after entering the tournament on a five-match losing streak.

“Honestly, I was expecting to win this tournament,” he said. “I just need one more.”

Kulkarni advanced with a straight-sets win over No. 6 Ivan Rybak.

Girls’ 16s Final
No. 1 Sylvana Jalbert vs. No. 4 Shristi Selvan (both Maryland)

Jalbert moved through in straight sets, while Selvan rallied to reach her second consecutive Level 1 national final after winning the Winter Nationals.

Sunday’s schedule also includes doubles finals, along with third-place and consolation matches, wrapping up the week-long tournament.
